Yunusobod is a district in the north of Tashkent rather than a separate city, largely built as Soviet-era housing microdistricts. It is residential, with wide roads and generous tree planting typical of the city's post-earthquake reconstruction.
The district holds the city's television tower, among the tallest structures in Central Asia, with a viewing platform. Tashkent's old town with the Khast Imam complex, and the ornate metro stations that are attractions in their own right, lie to the south.
A metro line serves the district and connects to the centre, supplemented by buses and shared taxis. The city is flat and the layout generous, so distances are longer than they look.
Spring and autumn are much the most comfortable. Summers in Tashkent are very hot and dry, and winters are cold with some snow.
