Temara lies immediately southwest of Rabat on Morocco's Atlantic coast and functions as a residential extension of the capital. It is largely modern housing, with a beach strip along the ocean that fills with city residents in summer.
The beaches south of the town are the main local draw, though the Atlantic here has strong surf and currents. Rabat, with its kasbah above the river mouth, the Chellah necropolis and the Hassan Tower, is a short drive north and is where the region's sights are concentrated.
Trains and shared taxis connect quickly into Rabat, and a tram network serves the capital itself. Local grands taxis cover the town and the beaches.
Spring and autumn are the most pleasant, with mild temperatures and fewer crowds. The Atlantic keeps summers cooler than inland Morocco, and winters are mild and wetter.
