Australia's October 2026 clock change: check domestic meeting gaps
Sydney has moved to summer time, while Brisbane and Perth keep their usual clocks. Recheck Australian meeting times for October.
The October change has already happened
Daylight saving began on Sunday 4 October 2026 in the Australian Capital Territory, New South Wales, South Australia, Tasmania and Victoria. The Fair Work Ombudsman's published schedule and an ASX notice confirm the date. This is a seasonal update after the transition, not an announcement of a new nationwide rule. Australia does not use one clock setting for every state, and regional exceptions mean a city-based check is more useful than selecting only the country.
Sydney and Brisbane no longer share the same hour
Sydney is now on UTC+11, while Brisbane remains on UTC+10. A call at 10:00 in Sydney therefore reaches Brisbane at 09:00 on the same date. That one-hour gap was absent before Sydney's October change. Use the Brisbane–Sydney comparison for the actual meeting date, particularly when copying an older invitation. Do not treat the October adjustment as an instruction to move clocks in Queensland, Western Australia or the Northern Territory.
Check recurring invitations and the next season
For a recurring call, decide which city's local hour is meant to stay fixed. An invitation anchored to Sydney can shift for colleagues elsewhere even though the organizer still sees the same start time. Check the calendar occurrence after the change, rather than only the series title or a saved screenshot. The recurring meetings guide explains that choice. Future invitations should retain the regional time zone so the next seasonal transition can be applied by an updated calendar.
