Koumassi is a dense commune within greater Abidjan on the south side of the lagoon, working and residential rather than a visitor base. Its streets are lined with small shops and workshops, and most people staying in Abidjan base themselves in Plateau or Cocody and pass through here.
The commune's markets and street life are the real interest, busiest from mid-morning through the afternoon. There are few formal sights, but it gives a clear view of everyday Abidjan away from the administrative and diplomatic districts.
