The Taka mountains directly behind the town are the defining sight and are most striking in the low light of early morning and evening. The market is known regionally for its range of goods brought across the nearby border, and it is busiest in the morning.
The centre is compact and walkable, with rickshaws and shared vehicles for longer distances. The surrounding area requires arranged transport, and conditions vary considerably with the season.
The climate is hot and dry for most of the year, with rain concentrated in a short summer season that briefly greens the surrounding plain. The cooler months around the turn of the year are far more comfortable for time outdoors.
