The surrounding highlands are the draw, with tea estates, waterfalls and the Situ Gunung suspension bridge over a forested ravine. The south coast beaches at Pelabuhan Ratu are within reach and face the open Indian Ocean, with strong surf and a dramatic setting.
Angkot minibuses and motorcycle taxis cover the town, and ride-hailing is available. Mountain roads to the coast and the plantations are winding and slow, and a car or arranged driver helps considerably.
The dry season through the middle of the year is much the best for the mountains and the coast. The wet season brings heavy rain, landslides on the mountain roads and frequent cloud over the highlands.
