Shibganj is a town in northern Bangladesh serving a densely farmed rural district on the alluvial plain. The centre is built around its bazaar and the main road, and the surrounding country is given over to rice and other intensive cultivation.
The town is a local market centre rather than a destination, and the bazaar is the main point of interest, busiest in the morning. Northern Bangladesh holds several significant archaeological sites from the region's Buddhist and early Islamic periods within reach by road.
Rickshaws and shared vans are the standard local transport, and the centre is compact enough to walk. Buses connect to the district towns and onward toward Dhaka, and journeys are slow.
