San Miguelito adjoins Panama City to the northeast and forms part of the capital's continuous urban area. It is densely populated and largely residential, having grown from informal settlement, and visitors to Panama stay in the city proper.
The district is residential rather than a destination. Panama City's Casco Viejo colonial quarter, the Miraflores locks on the canal and the rainforest of Soberanía national park are all reachable, and the canal is the region's defining attraction.
A metro line runs through the district and connects into central Panama City, which is much the fastest option. Buses cover local distances and traffic on the corridors is heavy.
The dry season from around mid-December to April is much the most comfortable. The rainy season brings heavy afternoon downpours, and the climate is hot and humid throughout.
