Buses and taxis cover the city well, and colectivos (shared vans) connect Merida with surrounding towns and archaeological sites. The historic center is walkable, though the heat makes shaded routes and early starts worthwhile.
The relatively cooler, drier months from November through February are the most comfortable for exploring, given the intense heat and humidity that build through the rest of the year, particularly before the summer rains arrive.
