Malmö sits at the southern tip of Sweden facing Denmark across the Öresund, and is linked to Copenhagen by a bridge and tunnel. The medieval core around Lilla Torg is compact, while Västra Hamnen on the former shipyard site is the modern waterfront quarter.
The Turning Torso, a twisting residential tower on the western harbour, is the landmark and the tallest building in Scandinavia. Malmöhus castle houses the city museums, the old town squares are pleasant for an afternoon, and Copenhagen is around half an hour away across the bridge.
The city is flat and exceptionally well set up for cycling, which is how most residents move around. Trains cross to Copenhagen frequently, including directly to its airport, and the centre is walkable.
