The Long Xuyên floating market is smaller and considerably less touristed than those at Cần Thơ, which is its appeal, and is busiest at dawn. The Sam mountain at Châu Đốc nearby is a major pilgrimage site with temples up its slopes, and the Tra Su cajuput forest with its green duckweed waterways is among the delta's most photogenic places.
Boats are the natural way to see the river and the market, and motorbikes dominate on land. Buses connect to Cần Thơ and Ho Chi Minh City.
The dry season from around December to April is the most comfortable. The floating season later in the year raises the water and is when the cajuput forest looks its best.
Vietnam uses the VND, calling code +84.
Vietnam uses the đồng, and Vietnamese is the language with Khmer and Cham also spoken in An Giang. Cash remains widely used, and bargaining is expected at markets.
