Dachang is a town in the Baoshan district in the northern part of Shanghai, part of the city's outer urban area rather than a separate settlement. It is residential and industrial in character, well within the built-up area of the municipality.
There are no significant attractions in the town itself. Central Shanghai, with the Bund, the old town and the museums of People's Square, is reachable by metro, and the water towns on the city's outskirts are the usual excursion.
Metro lines reach the district and connect to the centre, and journeys take some time given the distance. Buses and taxis cover local trips, and the area is flat and easily cycled.
