The Templo del Carmen and the Bola de Agua water tower are the city's landmarks, and Tresguerras's work gives the centre an unusual architectural coherence. Celaya is nationally famous for cajeta, a caramel made from goat's milk, and the colonial cities of Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende are close.
The centre is walkable and buses and taxis cover the rest. The Bajío's road network is good and makes the surrounding colonial towns easy day trips.
The highland climate is mild year-round, with a summer rainy season of afternoon storms and a dry, sunny winter with cold nights. Spring is warm and dry and generally the most pleasant.
