Cazenga is a densely populated district on the eastern side of Luanda rather than a separate city, largely residential and informally built. Visitors to Luanda stay in the central and coastal districts, and Cazenga is part of the working fabric of the capital.
There are no visitor attractions within the district, whose character is everyday Luanda away from the seafront. The colonial-era centre, the fortress and the long coastal promenade lie to the west and are where the city's sights are concentrated.
Shared minibuses known as candongueiros are the main local transport, supplemented by taxis. Traffic in Luanda is notoriously heavy and journeys across the city take much longer than distances suggest.
The climate is hot, with a humid rainy season through the southern summer and a cooler, drier and often overcast season in the middle of the year. The dry season is the more comfortable for moving around the city.
