Cainta is a busy municipality in Rizal province on the eastern edge of Metro Manila, bordering Pasig and Marikina. It is largely residential and commercial, with malls and subdivisions along its main roads, and makes a practical base for the eastern side of the capital region.
Cainta is known across the Philippines for its kakanin, traditional rice cakes such as bibingka and suman, sold from stalls and family shops around town. The old town centre has a historic parish church, and the cooler hills of Antipolo rise just to the east.
Jeepneys, tricycles and buses are the main transport, and traffic on the main roads can be very heavy. The eastern end of the LRT-2 rail line in neighbouring Marikina and Antipolo offers a faster route toward central Manila.
The drier months from December to February are the most comfortable. March to May is hot, and the rainy season from June to November brings typhoons and flooding.
