Bhatara, usually written Vatara, is an administrative thana in northeastern Dhaka rather than a separate city. It covers part of the diplomatic and affluent residential belt including areas near Baridhara, alongside much denser neighbourhoods.
The thana is residential and diplomatic rather than a visitor area. Dhaka's old city with the Lalbagh fort, Ahsan Manzil and the Sadarghat riverfront lies well to the south, and the National Parliament building by Louis Kahn is nearer.
Rickshaws, buses and ride-hailing cover the area, and the airport is close by. Traffic in Dhaka is among the heaviest anywhere and journeys take far longer than distances suggest.
The cool, dry months around the turn of the year are much the most comfortable. The monsoon brings heavy rain and flooding, and the pre-monsoon period is very hot.
