Bello adjoins Medellín to the north in the Aburrá valley and forms part of the same continuous urban area. It is largely residential and industrial, and visitors to the region generally stay in Medellín's Poblado or Laureles districts and travel out.
The town itself has few formal attractions, and its interest is as part of the wider valley. The metro and cable-car network that serves the valley is itself notable, and the hillsides above the city give the best sense of how the whole conurbation sits between the ridges.
Medellín's metro runs north through Bello and is the fastest way into the centre of the conurbation. Buses cover local distances, and the valley floor is flat while everything off it climbs steeply.
The valley's altitude keeps temperatures mild and remarkably steady all year, which is why Medellín is called the city of eternal spring. Rainfall comes in two wetter periods rather than a single season, and neither prevents travel.
