The Momoge national nature reserve nearby is a wetland of international importance and one of the key stopovers for the critically endangered Siberian crane on its migration, which is the region's distinction. The grassland and the alkaline lakes are the surrounding landscape.
Buses and taxis cover the town, and reaching the wetland reserves requires a hired car. Rail connections run toward Changchun and into Inner Mongolia.
Spring and autumn migration periods are the reason to come for the cranes. Summers are warm and short, and winters on the northern plain are long and severely cold.
